SLADS Holds 15th Graduation Ceremony

On Saturday 21st Nov 2009 SLADS (School of Library Archives and Documentation Studies) held its 15th graduation ceremony at its new Ukuni campus, Bagamoyo. The ceremony was officiated by Prof. Makenya Maboko, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Dar es Salaam, on behalf of Hon. Gaudensia Kabaka, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.

A total of 216 students pursuing diploma and certificate in librarianship graduated, bringing to 1685 certificate and 524 diploma students to have graduated from the college since it was founded 20 yeras ago. Minister Kabaka, in her speech read on her behalf by Prof. Maboko, emphasized the need for library services to be highly improved to face the challenges of rapid development in science and technology.

Dr. Alli Mcharazo, Director General of Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) and Chairman of the SLADS Governing Council, asked the graduands to advance their career and strive for new relevant skills.

According to Mr Hermenigild Maganja, the college had increased students enrollment from 172 in 2007 to 291 in 2009. He added that the college was expanding its facilities so as to enroll larger numbers of students, set to reach 500 by the year 2012.

The colourful ceremony was also attended by Prof. Alice Nkhoma-Wamunza, Vice Chair of TLSB Board of Directors, Mr Al-amin Yusuph, member of the SLADS Governing Council and members of the TLSB management.
