Posted: Monday October 10, 2011 9:21 AM BT
Being mandated by an Act of Parliament No. 6 of 1975, Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) is the sole institution in the country responsible to plan, set up, establish, equip, manage and run Public Libraries professionally all over Tanzania Mainland. Currently the Board has got 20 Regional Libraries, 15 District Libraries and 2 Divisional Libraries. Indebted by the requirements of the 2008 /2009 – 2018/19 Strategic Plan, with the collaboration of Local and Municipal Authorities TLSB aspires to establish Public Libraries in the Districts and Regions which lack Library services countrywide. As a starting point on Saturday, 1st October, 2011, the TLSB Director General, Dr Alli Mcharazo launched a Public Library at Ruangwa District in Lindi Region with the collaboration of the Ruangwa District Municipal. Initiatives are under way to establish Public Libraries in Korogwe, Muheza, Tunduma, Chunya, Masasi, Nachingwea, Namtumbo, Kibaha, Geita, Manyara and Njombe. It is anticipated that the partnership between TLSB together with Local and Municipal Authorities will be worthwhile in taking Public Libraries to the grassroots of Tanzanians. |
