TLSB DG Closes Elementary Library Training Course

Director General of Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) on 30/06/2010 closed a 3 months elementary Library Training Course run by School of Library Archives and Documentation Studies (SLADS), The Course which started on 1/04/2010 was attended by a record number of 75 participants.

In his remarks Dr. Mcharazo emphasized that the elementary course they had attended was just the beginning in their career development. He gave an example of himself that he had started at a very low level. He urged them to struggle hard so that they can attain higher qualifications (certificate, diploma, degree, masters and so forth) so that they can become good knowledge organizers and disseminators. He reassured them that library and information science profession has a bright future in Tanzania. He caused them to Study English language seriously to improve their communications Skills. On their parts, the students raised the issue of lack of adequate computers, Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme texts and other resources. They also wanted future training to be conducted in the regions, possibly on a part time basis, so as to cut down on training costs.

The closing ceremony was also attended by representatives of Heads of Divisions at the National Central Library and Mr. Ian Daffa, tutor at SLADS, who represented the Principal of SLADS.
