On October 22, 2009, the Tanzania’s Parliamentary Committee on Social Services paid a visit to the School of Library, Archives and Documentation Studies (SLADS), at Ukuni campus, in Bagamoyo. The Committee was headed by Hon. Mr. Omar Kwaang’ (MP), and comprised of other prominent members of parliament. The Committee received the School’s Progress Report and discussed it. The committee was informed of the need of such a School especially in this edge of knowledge management and information communication technology. They were also informed of challenges faced by the School – some of them being lack of campus based hostels, inadequate transport facility to ferry students from their dormitories in Bagamoyo town to Ukuni campus, inadequate library and inadequate office space for teaching and supporting staff. The Committee was also shown around the campus and was impressed by the new buildings and surroundings. The Committee had, also, an opportunity to speak to students of SLADS, The Committee commended the good job that has been done by the managements of SLADS and Tanzania Library Services Board, and promised to be ambassador of the School.
